The Pig Yard

September 2001 @ the Pig Yard...

At the beginning of the month we went down to stay the night in Wells and celebrate the 50th birthday of Steve Fox, a college friend from way back when. It was an opportunity to catch up with old acquaintances. Click for a larger image

Can you spot the difference? Well it appears as though Steve has a problem with this question. One significant difference is that the Terrano runs on diesel and the Audi TT doesn't. So why did Steve decide to put petrol into the Terrano? Oops....
Steve bought himself a new computer and it took him two weeks to copy all his old data and e-mail messages from the old machine and install it onto the new one. He did have a few problems with Outlook Express but he got there in the end. His old machine has now been installed with friends Dave and Lucie but for some obscure reason the modem has now stopped working so it will have to be sorted. For nerds this is a Dell 8100 1.5Ghz with 256 Mbytes RAM running Windows 2000 and Office XP.

After being in the house for over 4 years it was time we put this clock up. We bought it an auction about 25 years ago for £8 and it keeps reasonably good time provided one of us remembers to wind it up every few days. The grandmother chair was also bought at auction for only £12.

Steve hard at work in the garden. Having dug this plot over he has now rotovated and raked it in readiness for turning it into an area for grass-like plants. We started it some weeks ago by planting a bamboo in the corner.
A visit to the garden centre gives us an instant garden. This is going to be our grassland area next to the decking around Jane's stone tower. The drainage pipes at the front need to be finished and levelled off which we hope to complete during October.
This is the last area of the garden which still needs some serious work. It is more like a builders reclaim yard with a mixture of bricks, stone and lead sheeting. We have plans to plant a willow hedge in front of the Calor Gas tank to hide it from the rest of the garden. A trench has been cut through the concrete but the clay needs to be replaced with some decent soil.
