Saltaire Visit

I had heard about Saltaire near Shipley some time ago. I arranged to meet up with college friends for one of our regular get-togethers. It was also an opportunity to introduce them to my friend Mary.

As we entered the building the sheer size of it took my breath away. Each of the three floors were spaciously arranged with artworks by David Hockney.

He did a study of Woldgate a road in the East Riding of Yorkshire. He created images on his iPad from various times of year.

They are interesting works of art and my favourite is the one on the right of this picture. It’s a fascinating series of images and I would be happy to have any one of them on my wall however I think the impact is greatest when you can see so many side by side.

We were so busy enjoying the Salt Mill we didn’t have time to explore the town of Saltaire.

As there is so much to see and it is of significance as a World Heritage Site I’m planning an overnight stay before December.

I remember Woldgate, it’s the old Roman Road that is very much in evidence in Bridlington, where I spent my early years growing up, I used to ride my horse, Skylark, up there many times, we lived quite close, and in later years my mum lived quite close in Westgate, and I would take her down Woldgate, although now it is quite overgrown in parts
