A three-hour drive up Highway 101 from San Francisco and I’m at High Horse, Clive and Tricia’s second home although they love it so much it could be their primary residence.
For the next week or so I’m sleeping in a luxurious cabin a hundred metres away from the main house with stupendous views over the valley below.
Around the 60 acres of land there are wonders to behold at every turn. Whether it be flowers growing amongst the grasses or the hundreds of trees that line the tracks that criss-cross the property.
Clive has saved up a lot of maintenance jobs that we will be attempting over the coming days and today we completed the first. Above the terrace there is a misting system that sprays water during the hottest part of the day and gives the effect of external air-conditioning. During last winter it appears to have frozen and split all the compression joints. We replaced them all and after some fiddling around stopped all the leaks. Please note the blue sky in the background…
Needless to say we had several glasses of wine to celebrate and a fine dinner in the evening.
Yep, just as we thought, already feeling REALLY sorry for you having to stay in a log cabin half-way up a mountain….
(and we just can’t bring ourselves to comment on being forced to work like that completely ignoring the Working at Heights Regulations….)
It’s a tough life but someone’s got to live it. The ladders were right on the edge of the terrace so there was an element of risk – no hard hats or safety net though. Good to hear from you. Steve x
