Gardening Optimism

The thing about gardening is that there is always hope. The vegetable plot has been comparatively unproductive due to the extremes of weather this year and it can get very disheartening however when it does come good the produce is very good. The photo shows the carrots, runner beans and courgette that I picked yesterday. Most of these were eaten as part of my evening meal. The par boiled carrots were fried with the courgette and an onion from last year’s crop. All served up with the runner beans, potatoes (care of Tesco) and a sausage casserole I batch prepared some time ago.

Apart from the garden my time has been occupied with U3A activities. With the help of some of the committee I’m preparing another survey to find out what our members want. Getting the right questions and asking them in a meaningful way isn’t easy as I learned from the survey I created two years ago. I also visited Skegness U3A to see how they organise their monthly meetings; very different from ours. You would think that somewhere like Skeggie where a lot of people are of retirement age there would be a huge membership however they have half the number of West Wolds (360 and growing).
