At this time of year, after heavy rains, a pond appears alongside the drive. Within a few days an arctic blast covered the country and it went from a pond to an ice rink.
Interestingly the freezing effect helped the water to evaporate and is now only a few centimetres deep.
During these short winter days I need some cheering up and there’s nothing better than a little retail therapy. Sometimes browsing Amazon isn’t sufficient.
Helène and I went to Mole Country stores and bought a new wheelbarrow. The old one is falling apart and the pneumatic wheel has yet another puncture.
I’m not sure how robust the plastic barrow will be but it certainly won’t rust.

I had a small door mat inside the back door for years but invariably step off it to take my gardening boots off. I’m hoping this rug from Dunelm will keep the tiles clean – more retail therapy.
Yes, it’s very cold outside therefore I’m lighting the log burner every night. I need kindling! I brought back several bags of a cut up pallet from Helène’s and I spent a couple of hours splitting it. The workshop isn’t heated but I kept warm wielding the hand axe.

Hi Steve.
Sorry for my lack of contact but having read your blog it seems life isn’t treating you too badly. Thank you for your Christmas card and apologies for not sending you one. Unfortunately I broke my wrist not long before Christmas and also it had to be operated on, so card writing suffered.
Anyway (or ‘any old road up’ as Jane would say), Ray and I send belated best wishes for a Happy, Healthy 2025 to you and ‘Helene’ and maybe one day we may even make it to your end of the woods?.
Regards
Kath
P.S I tried phoning you but it appears your number has changed, or maybe like many others you now don’t have a landline.
Hi Kath – good to hear from you. Sorry to hear that you’ve broken your wrist. Am I right in thinking you were into archery? If so a broken wrist would put an end to that.
I gave up my land line some months ago when I switched to Fibre. I should have written my mobile number on the card.
Life here is very good but I need to plan some holidays in the coming year or else nothing will happen.
Stay healthy… Steve xx
