Our volunteering at Lincoln Castle brings us into contact with all sorts of events. Last weekend the Romans came to Lincoln or should that be Lindum as the Romans called it.
It was a great show with the Roman soldiers demonstrating some serious siege equipment like this catapult. They were firing melons which flew a considerable distance – thankfully the crowd kept well back so nobody was at risk.
The soldiers took their re-enactment very seriously with all the centurions drill commands in Latin. Despite the sunshine it wasn’t warm so bare legs and arms shows how tough these chaps are.
