Jane had an MRI today to investigate the shadow on her liver identified by the CT scan. She wasn’t looking forward to it because of her dislike of confined spaces. The dread wasn’t helped by being number 13 in the list for her blood test first thing in the morning – an omen she said.
She was called into the scanner on time but within 5 minutes they came out to get me because she was having a panic attack. They allowed me to sit in with her so she would remain calm (ish) and so I could share the experience – we’re in this together. Well for those who have never had an MRI I can tell you that although it looks scary it is in fact quite harmless and as with all things, it was soon over. The toughest part was Jane having to hold her breath for an inordinate amount of time through several noisy scans, I was also holding mine and I can tell you it wasn’t easy.
Beforehand hand I had to leave outside anything metallic such as watch, money, etc but I forgot, in my panic, about my smartphone in my pocket. After several cycles I suddenly felt the phone in my pocket so decided to sit on the phone (fat backside acting as a screen from the magnetic field) but I thought the damage was already done. Jane was so relieved to get out from inside the narrow tube, the noise and away from the vibration that she cried with relief.
We went for a coffee and it was then that I confessed to the phone frying mistake. When I tried to turn it on there was nothing – oops, not good, but I stayed calm, removed the battery, put it back in again and hey presto a fully working Samsung Galaxy S3.
We should get the results of the scan when we see Dr Intravici on Friday morning.

Jane met her oncologist this morning as part of her three monthly review and we had hoped the results of the MRI would be available but no such luck. She promised she would phone as soon as they became available.
Dr Intrivici was very positive about Jane’s condition and the drugs are keeping the cancer at bay. Her blood results are getting better and better and of course she is fit enough to do everything she wants to do so her quality of life is very good and that’s what matters.
Dear Jane and Steve,
My goodness me you two are going through a tough time. My thoughts are with you and I hope you have good news on Friday from Dr. Intravici.
I went through our photo album the other day looking for something and came across the photos from our day at the Yorkshire Sculpture Park. My goodness me we all looked so well and healthy and full of energy that I even commented on our combined good looks and youthful appearance in my notes in the album and that was such a short time ago. All love Liz
Hi Liz, yes it was quite a day because Jane felt like a pin cushion after having her bloods taken first thing, then two attempts to get a line in for the MRI and finally her chemo line in the afternoon. It didn’t deter her from driving back into Lincoln in the evening for her Rock Choir – she’s made of stern stuff. Thanks for keeping in contact. Steve xx
