Chemo Round 2

chemodrugsJane went for her second chemo session today and like all events in the NHS it didn’t run as expected. We turned up at Haematology at 1pm so her bloods could be checked and then had lunch in the hospital café. Her session was slotted for 3pm so we went down early and after waiting for a while Jane was approached by a nurse to be told that her bloods hadn’t been tested for liver function because the staff on the Waddington ward had failed to tick that box so it had to be retested. An hour and a quarter later she was called in so instead of it starting at 3 she didn’t get going until 4.30. Part way through they came out to ask if I could go up to pharmacy to get her prescription filled ready for her next visit as they didn’t have any staff available. I’ve started to find my way around Lincoln County Hospital and I reckon by the end of this I could volunteer as a hospital guide.

On returning to the Ingham Suite with her drugs at 5.30 I was allowed to sit in with Jane for the last part of the treatment and we managed to get away by 6pm. A long afternoon but Jane is fine and still smiling. Next session is Friday 29th at 3pm.

Jane and Steve we are both saddened to hear that the cancer has returned, reading all the blogs on the subject puts a lump in my throat and a tear in my eye, you both are so inspirational. We both wish you a full recovery, we are thinking of you both.
And a big thank-you for my birthday card (came back from Wales to it, today) even in times of adversity you still think of others, what a lady.xxx

Hi Alison, it’s been a tough couple of months but at least the treatment has started and Jane has noticed an improvement. We are under no illusions that the coming months are going to be very hard but we’re getting excellent support from so many people that it does make things a little easier. Good to hear from you. Steve xx

Thanks for keeping us updated Steve. The Jane we know and love is usually not one to stay still for long so it was good to hear that she had an active period even if as a side effect of the medication. Thinking of you both.

    Love Kath x

After a very active day yesterday she’s paying the price today because her feet have swollen and she’s been advised by the hospital to elevate her legs and wait for them to go down. So having behaved like a dervish yesterday she’s now chained to the settee watching awful Sunday afternoon films whilst hand sewing her patchwork quilt.

Time to get the chart out and put a BIG TICK in the two sessions completed box. Well done and all credit to you both for your patience and good humour.
    Thinking of you both
    Love and gentle hugs

Today Jane has been super hyped up as though she has ADHD and we’re guessing this is something to do with the steroids she takes when having the chemo. Thanks again for your continued support, it’s very comforting. Steve xx
