Hot Water Systems

hot-water-tank(feb14)Let’s face it how do you make a hot water system exciting? Even the plumbers struggled to make it sound interesting.

Our new house will not have a water tank and all systems will run off mains water pressure with separate zone valves for each area of the house for heating. The kitchen and utility room hot taps will be directly fed from the boiler but all other hot water will come from the tank in the picture.

The radiators are now in place and we hope they will give out sufficient heat to keep the large open plan downstairs warm and cosy. If they don’t we will have back up in the shape of a wood burning stove.

It’s not interesting, it’s fascinating. My copy of Plumbing – Hot Water Systems by F Hall (3rd Edition, 1994) however doesn’t seem to cover this type of system so I need diagrams!

It’s a complete mystery to me at the moment but I’ll listen very carefully when the plumbers take us through at the point of handover. I do know there are a number of zones and that the boiler feeds certain taps on demand, when it isn’t busy doing that it maintains the hot water in the tank at the required temperature.
