In preparing to travel to California alone I’m searching around for all sorts of bits and pieces. Last time I did this I didn’t, we did it or more likely Jane did it. Today I was sorting through a drawer and came across a mass of Jane’s colourful shoelaces, she loved to be funky and striped shoe laces were one of her things – I sat and wept over her shoe laces. Who would have thought?
Today has been one of those days when the seas have been rough and the high waves have been coming in from all angles. I’m learning the best way of coping with this is to get out into the garden and do some weeding. I want to get things as straight as possible before heading off. The vegetable plot is looking tidy. I repotted the cucumbers and home-grown tomatoes. I also planted out some more cucumbers and courgettes. I’m not sure the cucumbers will produce anything outside and I’ll have too many courgettes but I shall follow Jane’s example and share them with the community.
There is a huge difference between the two varieties of runner beans – the Scarlet Lady are at the top of the poles but the Purple Emperor are barely out of the ground even the ones I grew in the potting shed. As for the french climbing bean (Sultana) they are really struggling. It will be interesting to see how things develop over the next three weeks.
Callifornia..always reminds me of Beach Boy songs, happy times. Travelling anywhere these days is not easy. Sure u have got ur ESTA and a passport with the special electronic tag on it ( a recent change). USA seem to change rules to catch out all.
Travel…I was supposed to see my elderly parents last week to view a care home. Train ticket £134. Was then cancelled at a cost of £2o. Today, I have booked the same ticket for 2mmorrow with parents for £43. I simply do not understand. Now for the first time I need to face-up tomorrow to a machine to find my ticket…where have all the helpful people gone? Paul
Yes I’ve got my USA visa and the right passport and I’ve already printed my boarding pass. Starting out for the airport at 06:30 with Dave as my chauffeur so I should be at Heathrow in plenty of time for my 14:05 flight.
I don’t mind the flying, it’s all the hassle at the airport I don’t like.
Train travel is a mystery to me. Jane had it sorted and always made the arrangements using RedSpotted Hanky website. I like dealing with machines, you don’t have to worry about “small talk”.
I’ve really struggled to grow plants this year. I believe the up and down weather had a lot to answer for. It was hot then freezing the warm and wet and dark and gloomy. Everything is confused.
Xx
It’s good to know it isn’t just me. I wonder what I’ll be coming back to in 3 weeks time but whatever the state the garden is in I’ll soon bring it back round again. At least the lawn will be cut. Keep an eye out for updates from California… xx
Have a fantastic time. Looking forward to the e-postcards. Xx
