Oncology Visit

oncologist-stethascopeJane had her regular three weekly consultation with her oncologist, Dr Intrivici on Friday. She was very pleased with her progress but wanted to change the treatment regime from weekly Docetaxel to a three weekly cycle for all three drugs. From a practical point of view this will be much better because we won’t have to go every week however we were concerned that the cancer will return between visits. Dr Intrivici reassured us that the treatment was working and that waiting three weeks between treatments was the norm. There’s a lot of evidence that there is a great deal of stress when cancer patients finish their treatment because when one is being treated you know the cancer is being treated but when one stops it might come back.

She’s still hanging onto her hair, or should it be her hair is still clinging on to her and so the wig remains in its bag for the time being.

So Jane’s next treatment is likely to be around 20th October when she will get all three infusions and it will take virtually all day. At this point, in theory, she should be half way through the treatment.

  1. Thanks for the update Steve, good to hear some positive news.

Having the next two weeks off from chemo means Jane’s symptoms will be reducing all the time however when she has the full dose of Docetaxel the symptoms will be far more than she has experienced so far. Up until now she has only ever had 50 mg but the next time she will get 150 mg. The oncologist assured us it won’t be 3 times the impact on her symptoms and we hope that’s the case because the sickness feeling is very debilitating.
