Glorious Sunshine

The weather during April has been very good. There have been frosts in the morning and the days aren’t particularly warm but 120C is the right temperature for working in the garden when the sun is shining.

Weeding along the drive and through the tree lined walk is a never ending task and the longer I leave it the worse it becomes. Now the vegetable plot is looking tidy this area of the garden will be my focus over the coming days (and weeks).

This is the start of my piece of land and I’m making progress in clearing it of weeds.

The grass is also looking good. With Piglet cutting around the house this is the only grass that I have to cut.

In amongst the trees there are clumps of bluebells in flower. This whole area of the garden is planted with hundreds of bulbs – snowdrops, daffodils and fritillaria so I have to be careful when weeding. Thankfully the soil is very light due to many years of leaves covering it and so pulling weeds isn’t too difficult.

The area has changed in what will grow here since the holly trees were removed. More light reaches the lower levels and so more plants (and weeds) thrive.

Its all looking lovely Steve. Puts me to shame. Our bluebells dont even have buds yet, let alone flowers bu thats outside my control.

Hi Tony – as we discussed your neck of the woods is several weeks behind Lincolnshire in terms of warmth and therefore growth. I don’t take photos of the areas of the garden that are a mess for obvious reasons but I have to look at them everyday. The area alongside the drive tends to get overgrown very quickly and it will take several days, maybe even weeks, before I get it under control. In the meantime I’m very happy with the way the vegetable plot is looking. The block paths make a significant difference. Thanks for your comment.
