Time Flies…

Yes time flies when you’re having a good time…

In the past week I’ve been visited by my “support bubble“. They are a keen gardener so I roped them in to help me plant out one of my borders. The design was created by Young Garden Designer of the Year 2016. I followed her plant list and ordered them from Scothern Nurseries back in November however not all of them were ready so they only delivered a third of the order but at least it was enough to get started.

Our first task was to clear the existing plants and to prepare the ground. The following day we set out the plants we had according to the design. The plan was developed in A3 format but only having an A4 printer it is quite small to read however thanks to the good eyesight of my “support bubble” we managed to locate where things should go. There are still a lot of gaps but they will soon be filled when the rest of the order (60 more plants) are delivered and set out.

Life can’t be all work and no play so on Wednesday we drove up to the Humber Bridge in the Porsche, roof down, in the sunshine.

The walk across the bridge when the sun is shining and not too windy is superb. As you can see from the photo there was hardly a cloud in the sky. Unfortunately only the west walkway was open so we couldn’t come back on the east side and get a good view of Hull. Some people might ask “why would you want to?”.

No coffee or takeaways available in Barton upon Humber but at least there were toilets in Tesco.

The following day we drove over to Yorkshire Sculpture Park. It has to be one of my favourite places.

There is a range of different sculptures with Henry Moore’s scattered around on the landscape. The café was open for takeaway beverages and thankfully the toilets were open too. We took a picnic lunch, had a lovely day and the sun shone for most of the time.

Around the garden I’ve been tidying up the logs and managed to get a tarpaulin across the huge pile alongside the garage. It did blow off a couple of times but I’ve now tied it to a post on one side and a hook on the other with large logs holding it down at the corners. The wind blowing through the logs should season it well over the summer.

As the final farewell to the Ash tree I got one of the tree guys to come back and grind the stump down.  Whilst he was here he also ground an old Beech stump from before the house was built.

The pile of cut stump chippings is large however it soon rots down. I will put some spare top soil from the veg plot onto it and it will be ready to plant something but not sure what at the moment.

As I wrote at the beginning… time flies when you’re busy and after a delightful week my support bubble left their parallel universe.
