A New/Old Arrival…

Back in the day when I was working (eleven years ago) I felt I warranted owning the car of my dreams – a Porsche Boxster. When I retired I decided I didn’t deserve to have a sports car and replaced it with a Skoda Yeti.

Despite owning a couple of sports cars over the last four years (Lotus Elise and MX5) I’ve always had a hankering of getting another Porsche and I still cannot explain why I didn’t. All that has changed…

As of today I’m the proud owner of another Boxster. 2.7 litres, 240 bhp, 0 – 60 in 6.2 seconds. I won’t mention the top speed because that is beyond the legal limits. The  colour is perfect. It doesn’t have the gizmos to be found on my Mazda 30 however it is refreshing to be in control – no automatic wipers or lights or lane control. I have to concentrate and drive it.

I managed to do a deal so that it comes with 12 months warranty. There’s 32k on the clock, twelve years old and it looks as good as new.

My friend and neighbour, Dave, drove me over to the garage south of Sheffield so that I could collect it. I drove back along the motorways with the roof up but once I was off the main roads I donned my thick coat and put the roof down. It was only ten degrees but with the heater on I cruised back in style. There are many great features about a Boxster: its style, panache, road holding and the throaty growl from the engine cannot be beaten. I look forward to a few more sunny days this autumn so that I can get out for a drive along the twisting lanes of Lincolnshire with the roof down. I will use it as my lockdown therapy.
