It’s Called Winter

After many years of mild winters we seem to be totally unprepared for a few flakes of snow and daytime temperatures of minus 5 celsius. Admittedly I didn’t have a need to go out in the car but I did walk into the town several times where many of the shops had closed because of the inclement weather.
After the snow started to clear those who had been holed up came out to visit Tesco only to find all the bread had been sold and the milk was getting a little low. The only time I’ve seen Tesco more busy was at Christmas. Even the self-service tills had queues.
I did drive down to Mary’s near Bourne on Friday afternoon where the road from Wragby to Bardney was down to one lane with drifts on either side of the road about two metres high. The Mazda CX5 was sure-footed and I felt quite confident until I passed a bulk tanker on its side lying on top of a hedge – I reduced my speed and became a little bit more cautious.
