Today a dream came true. I’ve fancied owning a Lotus Elise for a long time and I’ve never allowed myself that level of self indulgence but the voice of reason is no longer with me and so I can be as decadent as I like.
The drive back from Nottingham started off sensibly as I got used to the controls, the low driving position and the fact it has a clutch (Mazda CX5 is automatic).
After about 30 minutes of driving when I got onto the A46 I saw a piece of open dual carriageway with nothing about so I was soon swooshing along at a little over 100 mph. Thankfully, apart from this website, there is no evidence so my license remains unblemished. The back route from Lincoln through the villages to home flashed by at an adrenaline rushing speed and I was pulling into the drive all too soon. But not for long as after lunch I removed the hood, whizzed across the Wolds and back again just for the thrill and it was thrilling.
So for the piston heads amongst you here’s the details: 0 – 60 in 5.8 seconds; top speed of 127mph; and although it’s only 134bhp it is very light. Don’t ask about fuel consumption – I don’t care! According to Val she could here me coming from some distance away so it does sound sporty too.
Climbing in and out is challenging but once I’m in it is very comfortable and the seats are very comfortable. Any sacrifice is worth it – trust me.
P.S. I’m still getting over being in your Triumph Herald when you did a hand brake turn at the bottom of Porlock Close!
I don’t remember that possibly because it was one of many. The Lotus holds the road really well because it’s mid engined, rear wheel drive and a very low centre of gravity.
They’ve changed a bit since the bright yellow one Derek Fossey had back in the day. Do you remember that? Enjoy it. X
Yes, I remember it well. Those were the days…
Wow, very impressive, looks good, obviously doing you good, well done, just keeping turning those corners,
I showed Gary and his eyes lit up and simply said “wow”.
Good for you Steve. Enjoy x
A very nice Birthday present to yourself. Looks fantastic, like the colour.
Enjoy Steve & take good care! ? x
