I’ve talked about it long enough so today I drove over to Nottingham to test drive a Lotus Elise. The first problem is getting into it – it was almost impossible to get my leg between the steering wheel and the seat without taking my head off with the roof. Contortionist doesn’t come into it. I nearly walked away at this point but having driven over there I thought I should at least give it a run out especially as the salesman had kept me waiting even though I’d rung ahead and made an appointment.
It’s a great car to drive. Really basic inside, no power steering, a hard ride and as different from the Mazda as you can get – perfect. Part way through the drive I realised my seat was far too close to the steering wheel (very short salesman). After I altered the seat it was far easier to get in and out – phew.
I need to test drive another one to be sure.
Well that made me chuckle Steve, the description of getting into the car was worthy of top gear. The vertically challenged salesman was not doing his job well at all leaving the car not set up for the customer.
You should have been there. You would’ve been in stitches. He was a shit salesperson who didn’t have a clue and it’s a shame because he put me off buying the car. I’ve taken a look at others and they’re are not many with a similarly low mileage with such good equipment. Some of the cheaper models have got the old K series engine instead of the better Toyota engine that this one has. Also the leather seats in older models are really in a poor state because they take a lot of scraping when you get in and out as you might imagine from my description of getting in. The jury is still out…
