A Pensioner’s Tale

heavy-horse(oct14)It was my 65th birthday last Sunday and had a wonderful day, loads of birthday cards and presents too many to mention. We had Graham and Sue visiting us from Northampton so after lunch we headed off to a ploughing competition in north Lincolnshire. Unfortunately by the time we got there a lot of the activity was over and done with but we did manage to take some photos of old tractors and two beautiful horses. Interestingly two horses will work for 12 hours a day and plough one acre a day whereas a modern tractor ploughs about ten acres a day.

curlew-on-humber(oct14)We also took our visitors to the wetland centre in Barton where there was an art exhibition of local amateur artists from Scunthorpe. It seems that whenever we’re up here we manage to get a glimpse of a curlew.

In the evening eight of us (the usual suspects) headed off to Wetherspoons in Louth for dinner. The food is really good value, nothing special, however the company was exceptional.

Thank you. I tend to go into a depression as I approach a birthday, particularly as I get older, however this year there are more important things to worry about other than getting old. Never the less I had a really good day with our friends and neighbours.
