Perhaps the notion of walking the Humber Bridge doesn’t appear on many people’s bucket list but then again why shouldn’t it.
Some years ago we walked the Golden Gate bridge in San Francisco and took the ferry back to the city but there was no such opportunity across the Humber so we walked the two miles across and then back.
It was overcast and a little hazy but the overall experience was excellent and we decided we would do it again, possibly in the winter when the air can be cold but clearer.
If ever one wanted to end it all this is the place to come. The railings are easily scalable and since the bridge was opened over 200 people have committed suicide and only five people have survived the 30 metre drop.
I watched it being built, as I lived in Hull, and then went across it many times, as went to live in East Halton, which is, or was, a lovely little village, not far from Immingham.
So you know the area well. The Humber is very impressive and the bridge is an excellent piece of architecture on the landscape.
