Testing Times

macmillan-cancerTwo weeks ago we had the devastating news that Jane had cancer again. This came after several weeks of misdiagnosis from the GP and the breast consultant at Lincoln hospital. Eventually they took biopsies from her right breast and her left lymph node. The result was malignant cancer. Jane also had a lung problem where she was short of breath and there was fluid down her side, from her armpit to her waist.

Last week she had blood tests, CT scan, and an echo cardiogram. We finished the week with a meeting with a consultant oncologist. We had hoped that the chemotherapy would start straight away however we were told there was a three week waiting list.

This week, after a second CT scan we have been told that her lung problem is not cancer but they won’t drain the fluid until she has finished her chemotherapy (8 sessions spread over a 3 week period totalling 24 weeks). The news that it wasn’t lung cancer was a great relief – an outcome that is the best of a worst case.

Over the past two weeks we haven’t been sleeping too well and our appetite is only just getting back to normal. Emotionally we still have good days and bad days but we are trying to keep busy and not let the cancer take over our lives. Thankfully we have had a lot of support and Jane’s friends, some who have had similar experiences, are being incredibly reassuring .

Tomorrow, Friday, we have another meeting with the oncologist. We will update this blog as treatment progresses…
