With the ash tree removal booked for next Thursday I thought it was about time I finished cutting up the wood from when the sycamore was removed in June 2018. With considerable help from Nick and his invaluable log splitter he cut and I stacked enough wood to fill two bins. I now have five bins full of wood which will take me through another winter and there are still quite a few branches to be cut.
I’m not sure where I will stack the trunk and branches from the ash when it comes down presumably where I’ve been stacking the branches from the sycamore. While I was moving logs under the tarpaulin I half expected to see a hedgehog curled up under some dry leaves but thankfully I didn’t. I wouldn’t want to disturb their hibernation.
It’s good to be back in the garden after the cold spell of the last few weeks even the flowers are appreciating the temperature getting into double figures. This camellia is hopefully the first of many.
There are signs spring is coming with insects and birds coming to life. I was serenaded by a very chirpy Robin while I was stacking logs and amongst the wood I saw this very iridescent shield beetle.
There’s a lot to see when I take the time to look and listen.
