Car Buying or Dating

Someone said to me that online dating is a bit like buying a second-hand car – there are some similarities.

There are some women who refuse to put a photo on their profile because they believe a partner should not be influenced by looks. Really? Get real! I wouldn’t buy a second-hand car without seeing what it looked like – does that make me shallow?. I’d want to get up close and personal; make sure it didn’t have too many chips or dents; kick the tyres; make sure the mileage was accurate (20 years old and only done 5,000 miles, who you kidding?); and if it all looks good then you want to take it for a run round the block or maybe even further if you’re not too sure.

So far, so good – finding a partner is like buying a second-hand car until… until you decide actually this car is a bit of a heap. It doesn’t give the mpg I was told, the mileage on the clock was a fabrication and the 0 – 60 speed is very lethargic. At this point you want to get rid of it – a car is easy; put it back on the market or trade it in for something more suitable. No harm done, no tears, no retribution, no worries. People are not like second-hand cars!!!

Of course, all of the above was written with tongue firmly in cheek, however like all humour there is an element of truth in it.

So in summary what you are saying is …..
…if you replaced your profile picture with a picture of the MX5, you might have more luck?

    I can see that working…;-)
