This was going to be a well run, programmed day that would work like clockwork. Oh what disappointment an optimist faces. We left home at 8.30 with the intention of getting into the hospital for Jane to have her bloods taken at 9.00, then we were going to head into the beautiful Lincoln City for a bit of a shop and a relaxing coffee before heading back to the hospital for the chemo session scheduled for 12pm. Well that was the plan – Ha Ha – best laid plans of mice and men as Steinbeck would say.
On the outskirts of Lincoln we hit horrendous traffic because some idiot lorry driver had spilled diesel on key roundabouts around Lincoln, roads were closed and traffic was chaotic. We arrived at the hospital at 9.40 but hey, we arrived. Jane was pushed up the queue for her bloods despite some grumbles around the room about jumping the queue. I felt like standing up and saying “Hey get a life, this girl’s got chemo in a couple of hours and will still be here long after you’ve left” but I didn’t, I just put the guy next to me straight. Out of the hospital by 10 so we did get into Lincoln, shopped and a relaxing coffee at Carluccio’s (coffee and delicious almond croissant for £2 – it would be rude not to).
Back to the hospital and Jane gets called at 11.55 – what’s going on that’s five minutes early? Yeah well don’t get too excited because she didn’t get hooked up to the first drug until after 2.30. We were lucky to get out at just after 5 and straight into the rush hour traffic (bear in mind this is Lincolnshire rush hour which lasts 15 minutes and then the roads are empty). So home just before 6, time for a quick cuppa before Jane dashed back into Lincoln for her choir. She’s making the most of every moment!
Pleased to hear that Jane is making the most of life as we all should, but not pleased to hear about the small shadow on her liver. Keep positive and keep making the most of each day even though I know it can’t be easy and it must feel as though you take two steps forward and one back. Love Kath xx
Hi Kath. Jane has the ability to focus on the positives so it was good news to hear that her lungs and lymph nodes remain clear. The oncologist was fairly certain that this shadow on the liver would be benign but only the MRI would confirm this. We now wait for an appointment. Thanks for keeping in contact, Steve xx
At last we have an update on the scans Jane had 3 weeks ago. Her heart is not affected by the chemo however there’s a very small shadow on the liver which may be benign but to be sure she will have an MRI in the next two weeks.
