A New Normal

This post is about my “new normal”, a phrase used by my counsellor to describe the journey I’m on. So what does my “new normal” look like?

Last Thursday/Friday I was host to Jane’s brother and his partner, Richard and Nicola. We went out for dinner and on Friday I had my final counselling session while they entertained themselves in Lincoln. A good time was had by all and we arranged for me to visit them in London in November.
As far as counselling goes I’ve been given the coping strategies required to handle my grief. There’s no way round it – I continue on the journey through life as best as I can in the understanding that life will get better and it may take years.

The weekend drifted by with gardening, volunteering and keeping in contact with people. Yesterday I went out for lunch with Jane’s cousin, Robert and Elizabeth, who are gardeners and were able to give me some useful advice.

frogeye-sprite(jun16)This week is my U3A week with a committee meeting and a monthly general meeting. It’s interesting because of the interactions between different people and some of them are becoming friends. Today I met up with one of them to discuss developing a future view of the local organisation (stagnate or improve?). He owns a classic Austin Healey Sprite so to end our get-together he took me for a spin round the local lanes. From the moment he set off I didn’t stop grinning as he pushed the car to its limits. It reminded me that it is still possible to have fun.

Robomower has been idle for a few days because I had the lawn treated (weed and feed) but I start her up again this afternoon… No naming ceremony yet but I’m toying with the idea of calling her Jemima because Jane’s mum used to call her Jemima when she was naughty.

No.No. No. Has to be” Pig”. This vote is like the struggles of the Brexit. Big decisions to be made. Down to you Steve….

    Well done Steve,
I like the idea of the name Jemima, very apt.
I had a British racing green Austin Healey Sprite in the early 70’s, very hippy I was at the time, can even remember the reg number DYX 633C, oh happy days

I can see you sitting in a sprite, all smiles. The Audi TT was a very smooth; the Porsche was scary but the frog eye sprite was exhilarating. Perhaps I should stop being safe with the Skoda Yeti and get something really hairy like a Lotus. S xx
