Caronavirus…

This post should be called “Caronavirus or the peculiar workings of the human mind”. I received this image from a friend in Northamptonshire where the local Sainsburys had sold out of toilet paper. Are people going to be using more toilet paper because of coronavirus? From the same source I also heard that there’s a shortage of soap. This is a little more understandable because we’re all being encouraged to wash our hands more thoroughly and more frequently but I think I’ve got enough soap to last me for the next six months.

Just to make sure, I started delving around in the back of the cupboard under the sink in the utility room and I came across this packet of household soap. I’m sure the perfume isn’t to everyone’s taste but it is soap. I should point out that the packet has a stick-on label which says 30p, it doesn’t have a barcode and barcodes were first introduced in 1974. My guess is – this soap is over 20 years old and Jane bought several packets because it was a bargain. It has probably been moved from house to house at least three times. This soap is well travelled and has provenance so is it worth anything? Could I sell it on eBay at an inflated price or should I take it to the next Antiques Roadshow? All comments gratefully received…

  1. Banbury Beekeeper says:

Well I think it’s obvious – sell it as ‘Pre-EU Pure British Heritage Soap’ on eBay. Say it’s a unique bar, none other known to exist, and then you can also sell the other 2/3 as unique as well…..

Don’t forget to remove the price label and replace it with one that says, say, £49.99 so that you can then ask for£99.99. If there are no takers just add #Brexit-approved to the advert and some 1di0t will then buy it…..
