A weekend in Banbury with good friends Gary and Caroline is always fun. Gary and I worked together for 5 years at Northamptonshire County Council and a friendship has grown out of that. We tend to spend a lot of time talking about bees, technology and politics. With the outcome of the recent election on our minds there was a lot to talk about. He gave me my first nucleus of bees and is a great source of advice when there are just too many options/decisions as to what to do next.
We went for a walk on Saturday afternoon at Stowe in Buckinghamshire. I didn’t realise that Capability Brown was an apprentice on the design team for this estate. There was a bitter wind blowing and despite some sunshine we were glad to get back into the warmth of the cafe. Our evening was spent at Voujons Indian restaurant in Banbury. I believe it is probably the best curry house I have ever visited. The food is excellent and the service is superb which is a winning combination. Sunday morning breakfast of toast with Gary and Caroline’s honey couldn’t be a better way to start to the day.
Ahem, I suppose I should be more precise. Capability Brown was in fact Head Gardner at Stowe but it is his work at Stowe, along with the contacts he made, that launched his career.
OK, your ‘overstay’ time has therefore been extended by 2 days 🙂
I stand corrected although I swear Caroline said he was an apprentice at the time. Also forgive me for not mentioning what delightful hosts you are…
Look forward to the next time 🙂
