Garden and Bees

Middle of October and the garden still has a few surprises of colour in store.

And the bees are active bringing in plenty of pollen on their leg sacks. The pollen will be stored and used to feed the new bees in the spring. I’ve been feeding them since the end of August, first with a sugar syrup mixture but I learned this takes a lot of their energy to convert this into honey so I’ve been feeding a fondant called ApiCandy. They’ve nearly finished one pack in two weeks so I’ve placed another pack in the hive and will check again in another two weeks. There is still capped brood and larvae so more bees will be emerging in the coming weeks ready to keep the colony strong through the winter.
