Another Blood Bath

No, not a political comment on the state of the UK at this time but the view of my annual pickling of my beetroot.
This year I left the beets in the ground for too long and they grew so large that they took a lot of cooking. One of them hadn’t cooked through after 1.5 hours bubbling away on the hob. I’ve now got three jars pickled and more frozen ready to be roasted in the future.

My domestic duties are never done either in the house or out in the garden. On a sunny autumn morning it is a real pleasure to be out hanging up my washing – listening to the birds, watching my bees still coming and going and appreciating that fresh smell in the air, a portent of autumn.
