Entropy and Human Nature

Entropy has two meanings:

  1. thermodynamic quantity representing the unavailability of a system’s thermal energy for conversion into mechanical work, often interpreted as the degree of disorder or randomness in the system.
  2. lack of order or predictability; gradual decline into disorder.

So what has this to do with Human Nature? Well it’s certainly part of my nature to be lazy and I’ve noticed a gradual decline in the way I live. In the first 2 years of being single I always had fresh flowers in the house to give it that feminine touch but now there are times when I just cannot be bothered. Also my cleaning regime has slipped so although the house isn’t dirty it can get a bit scruffy at the edges. When you are doing stuff for yourself it’s easy to start thinking that it isn’t worth the effort. It’s at times like this I need a kick up the backside or listen to the quiet voice at my shoulder that tells me to get a grip. Don’t get me wrong, the washing up isn’t piled in the sink and the laundry basket is empty (and not because I haven’t changed my underpants for a fortnight). To an outsider all looks well but I know I’ve let things slip.

No excuses, I need to get back on track; my backside has been duly kicked
