YSP has become one of my very special places and it’s somewhere I strongly recommend. Apart from the sculptures and artwork it is located in a beautiful Yorkshire landscape. Walking the paths across the estate, by the lakes and through the woods is just delightful whatever the weather.
The Giuseppe Penone items were stunning. From the tree that had been carved to its core to the picture of the eyelids made from acacia thorns stuck to a canvas. His theme related the human form to trees so he used slabs of marble to depict the skin with twigs sticking out from it like hairs – fascinating. His bronze trees with large stones and slabs of rock sitting in the tops are a marvel.
Worth a visit if you don’t mind travelling or are just passing junction 38 on the M1 but you need a whole day to do it justice. There are still places within the estate that I haven’t been to yet.
It’s our favourite place you visit as well!
If I lived nearer to Cornwall I think the Lost Gardens of Heligan (https://www.heligan.com/) would be my number one favourite place…
Glad you like YSP too but it’s a bit of a stretch for you guys unless you stay over in the mobile home 😉
Yes, a bit too far for a day trio but have motorhome will travel!
