We were at a loose end and Jane was feeling pretty good so we decided to drive out to the coast with Dave & Lucie. Several locals had said that Sandilands was an unspoilt area (no “Kiss me Quick” hats) and that’s how we finished up walking along the coast alongside some very ramshackle beach huts. The beach was lovely, probably because the tide was in as we’ve discovered the sea goes out a long way on this stretch of coastline and sometimes it’s difficult to actually see water (certainly true of Cleethorpes). We had a grand walk in a brisk wind followed by lunch at the Bacchus Hotel in Sutton on Sea. For those of you old enough visiting these places is a bit like going back in time to the 1950s and 60s. Time has stood still which is quite pleasant really.
On our way to the coast we passed Alford Mill and the sails were turning so we agreed to visit on the return journey. Unfortunately when we stopped we discovered it was closed and didn’t open on a Wednesday, trust us to be visiting on the only day it’s closed. No matter as it will give us a good reason to revisit during the autumn.
Gosh wish I had read that back through before posting. Sorry about the spelling mistakes. Shouldn’t use predictive text!
Lovely to read about your walk Steve and Jane. Howard would have liked to be with you as when he was a boy the always holidayed in Sutton on Sea, so he loves that coastline and we have visited ourselves many tines and had lunch at the Bacchus. Glad to hear you are doing well Jane. We missed you today at Mary’s McMillan coffee morning. Xx
Hi Ceri, don’t worry about predictive text, its a 21st century hazard that we’re all learning to live with. We liked Sutton even on a windswept day and we will certainly return during the winter. We will also make sure Alford windmill is open when we go again. Jane sends her love – currently in the garden picking the last of the runner beans.
