Foul Weather and Friends…

The weather this week has been absolutely foul with one weather presenter saying we had the equivalent of our November rainfall in one day. Is it any wonder that roads in Lincolnshire were flooded. Even the A46, a main artery through this part of the county, was closed due to floodwater.

I went to a local beekeepers meeting and the village hall in Middle Rasen was effectively an island. At one point the floodwater was coming over my bonnet as I drove through water with a depth of about two feet.

I had my own little water feature through the trees along the drive which hasn’t happened before – a clear indicator of the amount of rain that has fallen.

Once in a while I meet up with my college friends (it’s fifty years since we first met). This month we met at The Harley Gallery where we browsed the installations. Of particular interest were the mechanisms produced by Martin Smith. They were fascinating mechanisms along the theme of Heath Robinson.

We hoped to have lunch in the Welbeck cafe but it was full so we drove to the Old School Tea Rooms and what a delight this place is. As the name suggests it is an old school with a chalk easel for the specials of the day. I recommend it for its quaintness and good quality, value for money food.

Next month we’re planning to meet at one of my favourite places – Yorkshire Sculpture Park.
