A busy weekend helping Mary to sort out her garden. We had another tonne of topsoil to move into the last vegetable raised bed and to top up the other beds where there had been settlement.
We went to the garden centre to buy compost and 18 lavender plants which she placed into the back bed as a low hedge between the garden and the field behind. There’s still a lot to be done and there needs to be a planing plan…
On Monday evening we had booked to see Freya Ridings at the Glee Club in Birmingham. This presented a logistical problem because Mary was on a course in Huntingdon. I took Mary to her course in Huntingdon then headed off to Northampton to meet up with ex work colleagues and friends. I was back in Huntingdon for 4 pm and we headed off to Birmingham. The Glee Club was in China Town (I didn’t know Birmingham had a China Town – who knew?) so we had dinner at Malaysian Delight because it was full of oriental people and that was good enough for us. A cash only restaurant and a little down market but the food was original.
The support band, Arctic Lake, were unusual in that the lead singers voice was similar to Freya Ridings. I would have thought a support band should be slightly different from the main act. The singer’s voice was clear but a little weak at times.
At around 9 pm Freya Ridings came on for her set. She has an incredible voice and the backing guys were excellent. She played for just over an hour which just whizzed by – it was a shame it had to end. We left Birmingham and arrived back at Mary’s at midnight. It was an incredible day and felt like it was two days.
I don’t know about anyone else but I feel exhausted just reading your blog as you travel such distances and still manage to have the energy to enjoy yourself ! As they say Steve, ‘life is for living’ and you certainly seem to be doing that.
Hi Kath – it’s lovely to be busy but there are times when I just enjoy being at home and working on my own garden or putting my feet up and listening to the radio (The Archers?). Good to hear from you.
