I confess I’m not a fan of horse racing or Tom Jones so don’t ask me how I came to be at Market Rasen Racecourse (10 minute walk from home) watching a horse racing and waiting for Tom Jones to go centre stage.
The horse racing was quite boring really and having no interest in betting it is quite pointless however people watching is an excellent pastime and there were plenty of people to watch (over 11,000 in fact). Thankfully we were in the company of Dave & Lucie who made the whole experience for me less painful largely because Dave disliked it more than I did although the photo taken by Jane of them in the stands belies his actual feelings.
Tom Jones took to the stage at around 9pm and he sang all his usual stuff (including “it’s not unusual”) until 10.30pm. The audience were singing along with gusto much of it fuelled by alcohol at £4 a pint. It was good to be part of something so big and the atmosphere was great, if a little chilly. After a brisk walk home we really enjoyed our Hot Chocolate before taking to our bed.
