Where do the days go? At times I cannot remember what I’ve accomplished and then I look back on this blog and think it’s okay, I’m moving forward.
As always I’ve been busy in the vegetable plot. As I think I mentioned in my last blog the runner beans are doing exceptionally well and the surplus is going to a good home. I decided this week that my rhubarb is growing into a Triffid and therefore it needed to be culled. It’s amazing how quickly the wheel barrow became full with the leaves that I cut off. There’s still plenty left on the plant and it will survive until next season.
After three weeks of leaving the decimated beehive alone I was certain that there should be no living bees inside and therefore it was safe to take it apart. This is what bee genocide looks like. Thousands of dead bees decomposing. There’s still a lot of cleaning up to be done. I’m not sure whether the smell is due to the dead bees or the honey that was left in the brood box fermenting but there is a definite aroma.
The clean up will happen over the coming weekend.
After four years of thinking about getting the area alongside the garage tidied up I’ve finally got a landscaper to come in and get started. This is before the work commenced and it is an area under the trees which looks very scruffy. We used left over materials from the build and initially we parked our trailer here but I got rid of it 4 years ago.
I haven’t experienced workman since the end of the build and it’s amazing how they work. Initially he was going to come in every day for ten days. He arrived after 9.30 am on the first day and told me he was only going to work 3 days a week. He doesn’t usually start until after 10 am and has left site before 4 pm. This is a fixed price job so it doesn’t worry me too much if it takes two or three weeks as long as it gets finished before the end of the month. One thing for sure is he won’t get paid until it is finished.
