The next phase of the tree saga is the imminent arrival of two replacement trees. I think I may have overdone the size of the replacement trees. I was trying to make sure I might get to see some significant growth in my lifetime which, like everyone else, is getting shorter by the day. With this in mind, and with the help of Caitlin (Young Garden Designer of the Year 2016), I ordered 5 metre tall trees, a Hornbeam and Aspen. What I didn’t realise was that each tree weighs 350 kgs – that’s a lot. The average person can lift their own body weight (I looked it up on Google so it must be true)
therefore it will take 5 people to lift one of them. Thankfully the delivery lorry will leave them at the front of the house and I will have to muster the troops to load it onto a trolley and drag them around the back.
I started digging the holes and was pleased when I made them 500 mm wide by 500 mm deep and walked away thinking it was enough. Caitlin has since informed me the holes will need to be at least 1 metre wide – I’ve got a bit more work to do. There’s plenty of time to excavate more because they don’t arrive until 11th September. More on this after Tree Day!
