October 1999

We took a few days away from work for Steve's 50th birthday and were extremely lucky with the weather. The dales were devoid of the usual walkers so we enjoyed the peace and quiet. The cottage was cosy.
Even the upper section of Dove Dale which is usually crawling with walkers was quiet and as can be seen it the area gave itself up for some wonderful photo opportunities.
Standing on a high slope with the sun streaming down on us we couldn't have wished to be anywhere else at that moment.

October 2001

Two years and two weeks later and we had a weekend staying at the Farmyard Inn with our friends John and Susie from our college days. Each of the rooms was named after a farm animal habitat but we didn't stay in the pig sty which would have been appropriate for us at Pig Yard. The walk on Saturday involved heavy rain and thunderstorms.
The Sunday walk proved to be an altogether better experience with some periods of bright sunshine and consistently good company. During the four hours of walking we were either reminiscing or discussing heatedly the state of modern art or the bizarre use of certain words and phrases as they become part of the modern idiom.
The weekend unfortunately came to an end and so a final shot of the two rag tops lined up, I mean the cars not Jane and Susie.
