The Balloonatics

The Balloonists came in two by two,

Some to be Pilots, Some to be Crew.

No one could have understood,

That these new friendships could be so good.

Tony from Cameron’s employment he came,

Since then work hasn’t been the same.

Jude preferred to stay at home,

In her garden she would roam.

They’ve decided it’s time to move on,

So a new boss is coming along.

Colin went and bought a balloon,

Not realising it was too soon.

A pilot’s licence he would need to gain,

Some say he was a little insane.

Colin saves us having to queue,

As breakfast he cooks on his barbeque.

Pauline is willing to come out to crew,

But her partner on retrieve always knew,

That in the vehicle she would sit,

She really didn’t like the farmer bit.

Colin asked her to marry him,

But was this just a whim.

Dave & Lucie from travels afar,

Turned out to be a star.

Seeking to crew they knocked on Tony’s door,

They couldn’t have guessed what fun was in store.

Dave soon decided to learn to fly,

He turned out to be a natural in the sky.

Jane & Steve were next to arrive,

And they were guaranteed not to skive.

Exercise for them was always a treat.

Running up and down many a street.

When the pilot radios to see if anything’s the matter,

Steve replies, nothing just Jane having a natter.

Sue & Graham turned up more than willing,

Going out on the circuit to earn a shilling.

Graham was a lucky sod,

Not having a proper job.

Over the years people now ask,

What changed, he now packs ale in a cask.

Nick & Val whilst out in the car for a run,

Followed a balloon thinking this could be fun.

Little did they realise,

They too would soon be up in the skies.

For Nick after several years had past.

Managed to gain his licence at last.

Glyn & Jenny arrived with the girls,

Robyn & Faye with their curls.

Another pilot in the making,

But Jenny soon returned to her baking.

Lucky for Glyn the girls were more keen,

And even their husbands can now be seen.

Over the years the numbers have grown,

But it’s seldom you hear anyone moan.

There’s never a shortage of someone to crew,

As we are now, more than twenty-two.

Some are short and some are tall,

And one size sweatshirt won’t fit us all.

NEW team players

Having had altercations with the law

We thought we needed to even the score

Vicky and Alan joined the retrieve team

Policemen it appears are not as bad as they seem.

The young blood of Paul and Martyn followed closely behind

Bar Faye & Lee, Jeremy and Glyn the others over 50 you’ll find (although Val and Lucie are younger too)

We are getting a bit cranky in limb, muscle and brain

Although still enthusiastic we cannot lift quite the same.
